Fixing lead tracking so ad spend follows real calls

How we rebuilt Precocity’s Google Ads tracking so its campaigns learn from real phone calls and quote requests, not page views.

The problem

Precocity sells by phone and quote, not online checkout. Its Google Ads account reported a lead for about every click. Over one 30-day window it showed more “conversions” than clicks, at roughly 20 cents each.
The real cause was the website’s lead code, which fired on every page view, so each visit counted as two leads. The automated campaigns were learning from page views, not buyers. Phone calls, the actual sale, weren’t being counted at all.

What we did

1. Fixed the site code

Removed the lead codes that fired on page load. The contact lead now fires only after a real form submission.

2. Set up call tracking

Ad visitors see a Google forwarding number that rings the business line. Calls of 60 seconds or more count as leads, from both the website and the ads themselves.

3. Cleaned up what counts as a lead

Cut 18 competing conversion goals down to 4 real ones: qualified website calls, calls from ads, contact-form submissions, and Smart campaign calls. Everything else stays for reference only.

4. Matched targeting to the delivery area

Limited ads to the five Greater LA counties Precocity delivers to, for people actually located there, and blocked junk searches (job seekers, manufacturers, foreign-language queries).

5. Fixed a broken contact link

The contact page’s phone number dialed the wrong line.

Why it matters

Automated ad campaigns optimize toward whatever you tell them is a win. Feed them page views and they buy page views. Feed them real calls and they buy callers.
With clean tracking, Precocity can finally see its true cost per lead and, once close rate and order size are added, real ROAS and ROI.

Results

Results: in progress.

We’re collecting 30 days of clean tracking data before publishing numbers. When the window closes, this section will report true cost per qualified call, call volume, and cost per lead against the prior baseline.

The process

Audit, then fix tracking, then define the real win, then target the real market, then report weekly.
This is the same repeatable process we bring to every B2B and local business client.
